A Study on the Flower Bud Differentiation of Main Fruit Trees in Korea

Abstract
The flower bud differentiation period of leading dwarf apple cultivar was studied from May 30 to August 30, 1979.
There was the three-week interval between the earlier differentiated dwarf apple cultivars (Earli. Blaze on M26, Spur Gold on MM106, Spur Gold on M9) and the latest ones (Fuji on Seedlings) falling on June 20 and July 11 respectively.
The others were intermediate ones differentiating between June 27 and July 4. There was one week or so of significant differences among the early varieties (Earli Blaze, SpurGold and late cultivars (Mutsu, Fuji) compared with flower bud differentiation stages.
There was no significance among the rootstocks from the viewpoint of flower bud differentiation stages replicated by cultivars.
There were significant locality differences, and the accumulative temperature enhanced the flower bud differentiation earlier than the similar test conducted in 1972.
The most dwarf apple varieties were considered to be long day plants except the late or earlier differentiated ones.
There were no remarkably different characteristics among the flower bud differentiation symptoms of four dwarf apple cultivars.
